Who can invest in Real Estate Investment Trusts (REIT)?

Currently, only U.S. residents, 18 years of age or older, that have a SSN or ITIN, a U.S. bank account, a U.S. address, and a U.S. phone number who are investing as individuals, companies, or trusts are able to invest in the StartEngine REIT, excluding individuals from Florida, North Dakota, and Texas due to certain regulations.

All investors in the REIT are required to open accounts with StartEngine's Secondary platform. Only U.S residents investing as individuals, companies, or trusts are able to invest as the cap table for StartEngine Real Estate REIT 1 LLC is managed via our trading platform, StartEngine Secondary, so all investors are required to open secondary trading accounts.

Since these accounts are managed via StartEngine Secondary, we are only able to accept US based investors as trading is governed by state blue sky laws. This means that, at this time, we are unable to allow international investors to trade due to compliance with regulations. It is our long-term goal to enable all investors to trade - but trading is regulated by the laws of each individual investor’s state of residence. We can only ensure regulatory compliance for US domestic investors at this time, and so the Secondary market is limited in this way.

We do have plans to expand availability and access to the marketplace in the future subject to necessary requirements and any applicable restrictions.

Those wishing to trade on Secondary should educate themselves and investigate any specific laws that may apply to them.
